Surprise Trip to Laguna

Josh takes me to Laguna Beach every year for Valentine’s Day (our “dating” anniversary). We have fallen in love with that place. This year we decided not to go because I was about 30 weeks pregnant with the twins at that point. With the majority of twins being born before 35 weeks, we didn’t want to chance it.

After the twins were born, life was hectic to say the least. They are wonderful babies, but the newborn stage is just filled with constant feeding. One night I brought all the kids into the Academy with me so that I could work out. Josh and I were sitting along the side waiting for the Youth class to finish up, and he nonchalantly says “I have a little surprise for you.” I thought he was going to tell me that he picked up some raw cashews for me or something (yes, that would really excite me. I’m lame, I know). Well, his definition of a “little” surprise was taking me on a kid free trip to Laguna. I love my husband.

It was a quick trip, Friday-Sunday. Josh’s mom and her fiance came up to Pittsburgh to watch the kids. I was much less nervous leaving them this time around. Josh and I also went to Laguna 3 months after Aerie was born and it took me like a week to prepare a “list” of how to care for Aerie, as if Josh’s mom never had children. That’s a first time, overprotective, crazy mom for ya! But this time around it was a quick “Feed them this much, this many hours apart. Bye!” Well, maybe not that simple. But you get my drift.

Laguna was amazing. We stayed at the Montage and were treated like Royalty. That place is amazing. If you have never heard of it, you should check it out. We spent most of our time by the pool and walking the beach. Laguna is seriously the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. I love the cliffy, rocky beach. Josh and I went cliff climbing a little while we were there, which he loves. The first year we went, I was taken by a wave. I’ve gotten much better!

The first night we went to our favorite pizza spot of all time (and no, it’s not Paleo). BJ’s Pizza. Their pizza never disappoints. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it. We walked around downtown Laguna for a while and listened to some live music. Then we walked on the beach for a while in the dark.

On Saturday night we had dinner at the Resort. I think the restaurant was called The Loft. We went to the lobby first and listened to music on the piano and had pineapple coconut margaritas. Then we went to dinner. Josh had Sea Bass and I was boring and got chicken, but it was delicious. They brought us out a complimentary dessert with “Happy 7th Anniversary” written on it (our Wedding Anniversary is on the 23rd). It was a beautiful night.

The next morning was checkout. We had breakfast in our room, overlooking the ocean, then took one more stroll on the beach before checkout. We had such an amazing time and I can’t wait to go back next year.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, we talked about our amazing kids the whole time and Skyped them a few times while we were gone. They had a great time with Grandma and Mr. John.
